Waffle House Waffle Recipe (Copycat)✅

Crispy edges, soft center, just like the diner favorite
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon malted milk powder (optional, enhances flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Wet Ingredients:
  • 1 large egg
  • cups buttermilk
  • cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for richer flavor)

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat Your Waffle Iron
Plug in your waffle maker and let it fully preheat. A hot iron ensures crispy, golden waffles.
  • 2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together:
    Flour
    Cornstarch
    Sugar
    Malted milk powder (if using)
    Baking powder
    Baking soda
    Salt
    Set aside.
  • 3. Mix the Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk the egg. Then add:
    Buttermilk
    Vegetable oil or melted butter
    Vanilla extract
    Melted butter (optional)
  • 4. Combine Wet and Dry
Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined — don’t overmix. The batter should be slightly lumpy.
  • 5. Let the Batter Rest
Let the batter sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes. This allows the flour to fully hydrate and creates a lighter waffle texture.
  • 6. Cook the Waffles
Spray the waffle iron lightly with cooking spray if needed. Pour enough batter to cover the waffle iron grid (usually about ½ to ⅔ cup).Close the lid and cook for 4–6 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  • 7. Serve and Enjoy
Carefully remove the waffle, plate it, and top with butter and warm maple syrup. Add fruit, whipped cream, or even fried chicken for variations.
