🍪 Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Soft, chewy, and loaded with chocolate chips — this is the ultimate homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe. Perfect for bake sales, holidays, or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans Optional

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2. Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, beat butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes using an electric mixer).
  • 3. Add Eggs and Vanilla
Mix in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • 4. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • 5. Combine Wet and Dry
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until fully combined (do not overmix).
  • 6. Add Chocolate Chips
Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) until evenly distributed.
  • 7. Scoop the Dough
Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough onto prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  • 8. Bake
Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. Centers may look slightly underbaked — that’s perfect!
  • 9. Cool and Enjoy
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm or store in an airtight container.

Notes

🍫 Pro Tips:

  • Chill the dough for 30–60 minutes for thicker cookies.
  • Add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top before baking for a gourmet finish.
  • These cookies freeze well — both dough and baked.
